Fisherman's Cove

Fisherman’s Cove is a quaint restored 200-year-old fishing village. It's situated in Eastern Passage and is served by bus 60 from Bridge Terminal at Dartmouth. It's has a picturesque boardwalk, restaurants and small colorful shops selling all kinds of Maritime art crafts and souvenirs.  Best of all is the fish and chip...crispy and juicy.

 

Tallahassee Days (Pirates Festival) held on 21st -23rd Aug was well attended.  Took the opportunity to see some pirates and ate fried fish again. 

 

 

 

Hot Summer Day

No rain this week at all...temperature is soaring.  It's 25 deg C indoors and I still have not figured out as how to tune on the air conditioning.  The sun is brightly shinning so definitely no going out for me.  I have to wait till 630 when it's not too hot to go for a walk.  I try to walk every evening to build up my stamina for cabot trail hike coming up in mid Oct.  I am sure there will be lots of walking too in Iceland.   

Have to call Merala, Building Manager up.  It's air circulating and she got the duct open in both the living room and the bedroom.  Hope it will be cooler in the nights now. 

After summer, autumn will be here...can't wait to see the beautiful leaves.

I am Back From Vacation

Yes, I do miss home...not my Singapore home but my Halifax home.  Glad to be back.  This is my first trip away from home.  It was fun and not so fun at the same time.  You will get to read about it later.  Came home, did laundry.  I love my washer and dryer.  Put dirty clothes in, throw in a pocket get press the button, transfer wet clothes to dryer, set the dial, press start and wala, laundry done!  Lunch was rice porridge with dried scallop and pork balls...yum yum especially the pork balls  The rice never breaks up and doesn't have  much starch to it cos' it has been parboiled.  So the consistency of the porridge is definitely not good.  This rice will be good for paella, definitely will cook seafood paella one day.

Will update the blog next, was not able to do it on the road.  Just cannot download pic through smartphone and ipad.  Looks like I have to travel with my notebook in the future. 

Halifax Steinfield International Airport

The airport is located 30km North from my apartment.  Cab fare is $57 so it's more economical to take bus for $3 but took 3 times as long.  It's okay I have time.  It's not a very busy airport but has the usual fast food, stores but best of all a shop that sells lobster.  They do pack to travel, just need to buy a box for it.  Prices are not bad, $10 / lb and they do look really healthy and fresh lobsters.

Halifax instead of St John's

My initial final destination was supposed to be St John's, Newfoundland.  Through a church friend, I was introduced to someone from St John's. When I got to Canada I had a few conversation with him and he was pretty negative about a lots of things.  From renting an apartment, to banking, to getting a mobile phone.  Was told it is hard to get apartment in St John's due to regulations and its safer to stay in a hotel suites. For a year? he must be kidding. Thanks to all his negative comments, I decided to settle down in Halifax instead.  Thus far I have seen nothing but bad weather for St. John's. Worst part, a lot of flight cancellation o St John's.   I am writing this blog, from Halifax Airport with an hour flight delay to St John's.  

I felt like God allowed this man and his family to settle down in St John's 19 years ago, brought a brother to church to introduce him to me.  So that I don't have to make the mistake of staying in St John's for a year!  Awesome! 

Halifax Buskers Festivals 2015

Caught the event on the last day!  Still pretty pack on a Monday.  The city has been doing this for the last 29 years.  Performers depend on the crowds for their earnings and the crowd was pretty generous.

Halifax Public Garden

Victorian era garden dated back to 1867 the year of Canadian Confederation.  Garden is located at downtown Halifax and it's popular place to hang out and do nothing (yes it's free).  Enjoy the beautiful garden through these pictures.
