Cape Breton 4D/3N Eco Trip

15th October, at 8 am a group of 6 strangers got into a van to embark on a 4D/3N trip with Great Expedition Eco Tour.  At the wheel, we have Mark, 55 who is our tour guide cum driver. We have Sue, 62 a retired nurse from south of NS, and beside me was Nina, a 42 year old formerly from Halifax and now lives in Ohio and works in the Botanical Garden looking after the butterfly section.  Behind me, is Jon Leong from Toronto (ex-HK) a recent Master Graduate from U of T in Chemical Engineering.  Beside Jon, we have Dirk from Brussels, 50 year old nurse who is also single.  Right at the back of the van, we have Hans from Italy, a retired but on contract, a professor in German Literature.  He is the oldest of the group, 72 years old and even though he is on medication for his heart, he is extremely fit.  Of course with no introduction is, myself, the misfit of the group, oops, I mean the most unfit.

So off we go to Cape Breton!

Travel Backlog

Yes, I am totally backlog in my blog!  So what happened?  Too many vacations and too closed together.  After Cape Breton, it was laundry and packing of bags for Ireland.  Then off to Peggy Cove, Mahone Bay and Lunenburg.  After that a few hours of final details, then off to Dublin.  So here I am in Belfast, trying to update my blog.  The blog site is acting up and not sure how far I can get tonight.

As for sleep not sure if I will be able to get any since my room is on the second floor and the window faces a very busy road in Belfast and not to mention the clock that chimes loudly every hour just directly opposite the hotel, Jury's Inn.

On this trip to Ireland, I have a young room mate from Melbourne.  She really hates my snoring, first night was no sleep for both of us, me snoring and then trying to stay awake so I will not sore so loudly but that's one thing about snoring, it's an unconscious act and therefore void of all responsibility.

Halifax Seaport Market

Weather forecast did say it was a sunny day but of course they were wrong.  It was drizzling when I got out but no weather was going to dampen my day out to the farmers market.  It was my second time there, first time was on a Sunday and not all stalls were opened.  Today was a Saturday and it was a busy market.  The best buy is definitely the fruits and vegetables.  Cheap and good.

Here are some pictures of a busy market and my loot from the market.

Kale, at $3.50 a bunch

Romaine Lettuce at $2.50 a bunch

Very good chicken pie but at $7 a piece, okay it was still worth it

Basil is so aromatic

My Favorite, Pork Sausages

My Paintings

Of late, I have been really lazy and have not painted since mid August.  Shhh....don't ask me what I have been doing.  One reason could be my last piece needs correction and I have not gotten to it yet and I am out of large canvas.  Maybe this weekend, I go get some canvas and paint.

Here in are my masterpiece:

1) A Still Art

2) A Lighthouse

3) A Self Portrait (RCMI - really cannot make it)

4) A Diptych

5) A Scenic Place

6) Small Canvas

Survived My First Storm on the Atlantic Coast

There were no thunder and lightning like I am used to.  It just rain and strong gust.  All of a sudden the apartment turned into a nosiy place of banging, rattling and howling wind.  It was so loud that I decided to tuck myself into bed at 10:30 pm (best place to be on a rainy and cold day).  I can't even hear the TV well with the noises.  The noises continued through and at 1:30 am, I was still awake as it was impossible to sleep with the sudden banging noise.

I have never slept with the small window closed but the noise was just too much so I went ahead to close it and lo and behold the noise was done to a minimum and I finally fell asleep.

A storm like that is bound to do some damages of fallen trees and lost power.  Thank God it was pretty uneventful for me except for a bit of sand found on the living floor dislodged from the rattling.

The storm system is expected to continue till Friday / Saturday.

There will be a break of sunshine on Sunday before Joaquin comes along.  As to the Joaquin's path, it's still too early to predict.  Either ways it will be rainy and gusty just how much rain and how gusty is the question.  Anyways, a trip to the grocery stall is needed incase there is a power failure.  I need bread, biscuits and snacks and battery pack charged as a precautionary stand by.
