The other interesting thing about St John's is the colorful Victorian row houses in the city. Due to the vibrant colors, the houses are affectionately known as "Jellybean Row". It's an exercise though walking up and down the slope to see these beautiful row houses.
Heritage conservation bylaws preserved the majority of older houses, to the point that St. John’s now has a heritage district that sprawls across the entire downtown, and is the envy of cities across North America.
