Ireland 22-30 Oct Day 3

It was a somewhat a wet morning and after breakfast, it was onwards to more sightseeing with an animal stop and a beautiful look out.  It was a very cold morning and I had to jog a round to stay warm.

Finally it reached Giant Causeway. The visitor center is very nice, built like the stones in the Causeway and inside has a nice exhibit and a big screen that tells the story of two giants that fought on the causeway resulting in the stumped rocks.  Our visit to the visitor center was cut short by minutes when the fire alarm sounded.  I am sure it was not a real fire, but I did hear that the old visitor center caught fire once.

After that it was a picturesque drive to Derry (till in Northern Island).

Derry was a focal point for the nascent civil rights movement in Northern Ireland. The conflict which became known as the Troubles is widely regarded as having started in Derry with the Battle of the Bogside. The Civil Rights movement had also been very active in the city. In the early 1970s the city was heavily militarised and there was widespread civil unrest.

Derry is 2nd largest city in Northern Ireland.  Before lunch, I did a bit of walking along the Peace Bridge.  Thereafter it was lunch at the mall but no time for shopping though.

After that we were on our way to Donegal, back to Republic Ireland where we stop by for a bit of shopping for hand woven clothing and Irish Coffee.  Donegal is an ancient town found by Danish Vikings and home to the O'Donnell Clan.  We drove along Donegal Bay, with its small fishing ports and hidden beaches before arriving in Sligo for a one night stay at the Southern Hotel with dinner provided and it was pretty nice.
